كشفت دراسة جديدة أن صحة القلب والرئتين تؤثر على علامات الصبية والفتيات المدرسية المتعلقة بالقراءة والرياضيات.
وكان قد جمع باحثون في جامعة "نورث تكساس" بقيادة الباحث ترنت برتي، بيانات من 5 مدارس متوسطة تعود لـ 1211 تلميذاً، بينهم 54% من الإناث في سن معدّله 12 عاماً.
وقال برتي: إن "صحة القلب والرئتين كانت العامل الوحيد الذي وجدنا له على الدوام تأثيراً على علامات الصبيان والفتيات في اختبارات القراءة والحساب".
وأشار إلى أن هذا يعطي دليلاً آخر على أن المدارس بحاجة لإعادة النظر في أية سياسات تحد من مشاركة التلاميذ في صفوف التعليم البدني.
وعند الفتيات، تبين ان مؤشر كتلة الجسم الأكبر كان العامل الوحيد الآخر عدا عن صحة القلب والرئتين، الذي ينبئ بعلامات أفضل في القراءة. لكن عند الفتيان والفتيات فقد كانت صحة القلب والرئتين العامل الوحيد المتعلق بأدائهم في اختبارات الرياضيات.
