الفحص الدوري لعنق الرحم واهميته يوضحهم لنا الاستاذ الدكتور : هيثم فريد التحيوي استشارى أمراض النساء والتوليد والعقم ودكتوراه تأخر الانجاب والحقن المجهرى كلية الطب جامعة عين شمس .
يعد فحص عنق الرحم (Pap test) أحد الفحوصات الضرورية للنساء، إذ إنه الطريقة الوحيدة لفحص الخلايا الموجودة بعنق الرحم، وذلك للكشف عن التغيرات غير الطبيعية بتلك الخلايا، والتي قد تؤدي للإصابة بسرطان عنق الرحم، وعادة ما يتم إجراء ذلك الفحص لدى النساء اللائي تجاوزن 21 عاماً، إلا أنه قد يتم في عمر أبكر من ذلك في بعض الحالات مثل مشاكل المناعة أو الإصابة بالإيدز.
